“I belong to God, and God belongs to me.”
These words seems simple, yet they contain a profound spiritual truth.
Many people spend years searching for God.
They travel to religious places, study scriptures, wait for perfect timing, practice rituals, and seek extraordinary experiences.
Yet the deepest relationship in life does not need to be created.
It already exists.
The soul belongs to God, and God lovingly belongs to the soul.
The real question is not whether this relationship exists.
The question is whether we have accepted and started living it.
The soul does not need to establish a relationship with God. It only needs to awaken to the relationship that has always been there.
Why Do We Feel Far from God?
If God is so close, why do we often feel distant?
The distance is not created by God.
It is created by forgetfulness.
The mind becomes absorbed in possessions, status, fears, desires, and endless distractions.
Slowly we begin identifying ourselves with temporary things.
In that confusion, the awareness of our divine connection becomes hidden.
Just as clouds can hide the sun without removing it, worldly distractions can hide God’s presence without separating us from Him.
God is never absent. Only our awareness becomes distracted.
How Does the Connection Become Alive?
The relationship with God is eternal, but it becomes a living experience when divine qualities awaken in the heart.
A person may perform countless rituals, yet remain trapped in selfishness.
Another person may quietly live with honesty, compassion, kindness, and genuine concern for others.
Who is closer to God?
The one whose heart reflects God’s nature.
Honesty brings us closer to truth.
Kindness brings us closer to compassion.
Selflessness brings us closer to divine love.
A sincere desire for the welfare of all beings brings us closer to God’s own heart.
Where there is truth, compassion, selflessness, and love for all beings, God’s presence naturally reveals itself.
The Bhagavad Gita’s Wisdom
Lord Krishna repeatedly teaches that devotion is not merely external worship.
True devotion transforms the heart.
The devotee becomes humble, compassionate, free from hatred, and dedicated to the welfare of others.
“One who is free from malice toward all beings, friendly and compassionate, is dear to Me.” (Bhagavad Gita 12.13)
This teaching reveals something beautiful.
The closer we move toward divine qualities, the more naturally we experience God’s presence.
The Turning Point
Many seekers ask:
“How can I find God?”
But perhaps a deeper question is:
“How can my heart become worthy of recognizing what is already present?”
The answer is surprisingly simple.
Live truthfully.
Act with pure intentions.
Serve without selfish motives.
Wish well for everyone.
Love without expecting anything in return.
As these qualities grow, the feeling of separation begins to dissolve.
God is not reached through distance. God is revealed through purity of heart.
A Lesson from Nature
A river naturally flows toward the ocean.
It does not need to be forced.
It simply follows its nature.
The soul is similar.
Its deepest nature is to move toward truth, love, compassion, and God.
When we live against these qualities, we feel restless.
When we live according to them, we feel connected.
Not because God suddenly appears.
But because we finally stop moving away from what has always been true.
A pure heart recognizes God more easily than a clever mind.
The relationship with God is not built through ownership.
It is discovered through surrender, honesty, love, and selfless living.
Then the soul naturally realizes:
I belong to God.
And God belongs to me.
