Every human being experiences a strange inner conflict. Deep inside, there is a longing for peace, truth, love, and freedom. Yet the mind continuously becomes attached to temporary things — possessions, relationships, status, pleasure, and identity. Even when people understand intellectually that everything material is temporary, letting go still feels difficult.
Why does something false feel so real?
The connection between the material and the spiritual is not natural. It becomes powerful only because consciousness continuously gives importance to it.
The body changes constantly. Thoughts change. Emotions change. Situations change. Yet something within silently remains present through every stage of life. Childhood changes into youth, youth into old age, but the awareness experiencing these changes remains the same.
Still, human beings become deeply identified with what is temporary.
“My body.”
“My success.”
“My image.”
“My possessions.”
Slowly, attachment begins creating the illusion that the material world and the self are inseparable.
What is temporary appears permanent only because the mind continuously holds onto it.
The difficulty is not that the false connection is truly strong. The difficulty is that attention constantly feeds it.
A person may know that praise from others is temporary, yet emotionally depend upon it. Someone may understand that possessions cannot create permanent peace, yet continue chasing them endlessly. Awareness sees truth, but attachment keeps pulling consciousness outward.
This inner tension creates suffering.
